The Lillian Radford Endowed Professorship in Education

The Trinity University Department of Education invites nominations and applications for the Lillian Radford Endowed Professorship in Education. The Radford Professor will be granted the rank of Professor, with tenure, in the Department of Education. The appointment will be in the master’s level program in educational leadership. Candidates for the position must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education or a closely related field and have achieved national distinction in educational leadership and / or educational policy.
The Radford Professor gives leadership to and teaches in the graduate level program in educational leadership, supporting a cohort-based program offered in close cooperation with area school districts and with related community agencies, leading to the M.Ed. degree and administrative certification. This position will be held by a person who has an established record of excellence in teaching and who maintains a national reputation as a scholar in educational leadership and innovation. Direct experience in school leadership is strongly preferred. The Radford Professor will also interact with and support the two other graduate education programs of the university, the Master of Arts in Teaching program and the Masters of Arts in School Psychology program. The three graduate programs at Trinity University are NCATE accredited and maintain the highest national standards of performance.
Interaction with the University, as well as the larger regional and national community, will be an important part of the Radford Professor’s duties, including service as a significant resource to the public and private schools and districts of the San Antonio region. The Radford Professor will serve as both a scholar and a community engager who brings forward-thinking and actionable strategies to local and national educational communities. The professor will also serve as a connecting force for the students in the educational leadership program and those who have matriculated, helping to maintain a vibrant support network of educational leaders in partnership with Trinity University’s Center for Educational Leadership.
Trinity University is a selective private institution in the liberal arts and sciences tradition that is housed on a picturesque campus overlooking the vibrant and diverse city of San Antonio. As a university, the focus is undergraduate education and select Masters-level programs. The Department of Education is a small but highly successful department with three distinct graduate programs and ten full-time faculty members who work with the clinical faculty that includes mentors from the university’s professional development schools, practicing school psychologists and measurement experts, and school administrators from the Center for Educational Leadership. As a Department, we are seeking a colleague and a collaborator who will contribute to the overall intellectual and collegial endeavors across the three education programs.

Position Description
Among the responsibilities and opportunities for leadership and participation, key areas of the professorship include:
v Leading the Educational Leadership Masters level graduate program
v Teaching and advising graduate students
v Coordinating student recruitment and admissions for Educational Leadership
v Coordinating and providing support to adjunct or part-time faculty in the program
v Overseeing national accreditation and renewal for the program
v Managing programmatic budgets and assisting with scholarship disbursement
v Developing and maintaining relationships with the local educational community to support recruitment as well as job opportunity development for graduates
v Participating as a lead agent in Trinity University’s Center for Educational Leadership through work with the Principals’ Center as well as the Superintendents’ Forum
v Developing ongoing networking opportunities as well as enrichment learning opportunities for graduates of the educational leadership program
v Collaborating in seeking grants and funding as well as supporting ongoing grant follow-up in educational leadership and its related programs
v Establishing a strong personal presence on the campus, serving on select university committees, and participating in university programs and initiatives
v Serving as a spokesperson on educational issues to provide the department with local, regional, and national exposure
v Participating as a collaborator and thinking partner with the other members of the Department of Education and offering courses in leadership for other education programs
In terms of candidate qualifications, we expect the successful candidate will have prior experiences and knowledge in most if not all of the following arenas of professional work:
v Strong record of teaching and advising at the university and at PK-12 levels
v Strong record of scholarship and professional activity with national recognition for the contributions to the field of educational leadership and / or educational policy
v Recognized leadership experience in facilitating educational organizations such as principals’ centers or other entities
v Strong record of collaborative work
v Excellent presentation and public representation skills
v Prior experience with programmatic design and national accreditation preferred
