The
University of St. Thomas, a private Catholic University committed to the
liberal arts and to the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher
education, is seeking a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor; Director of
Secondary Education in the School of Education. The University enrolls more
than 3,700 students with its main campus located in Houston's Museum District.
The
School of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programs leading to
certification in EC-6 education, 4-8 education, 8-12, and EC-12 education. The School of Education is increasing its
emphasis on developing middle school and high school teachers with particular
attention being paid to the areas of science and mathematics. In addition to
teaching courses and providing regular office hours, faculty members are
expected to contribute to department planning and growth. Maintaining an
ongoing and active research agenda is required for obtaining tenure status with
the university. Faculty members are also expected to provide service to the
university and the community. The successful candidate will contribute to the
education faculty team by providing leadership in teacher preparation at the
secondary level.
The
position will serve as the primary instructor for secondary content courses for
pre-service teachers, will provide field-based supervision of students and work
with the Director of Field experiences in the placement of students, will
advise students for degree completion and career development as well as provide
individual student help during office hours. The ideal candidate must engage in
grant writing and other curriculum activities at undergraduate and graduate
levels related to education.
The
position requires that candidates hold an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in secondary content in
math, science or history. A teaching certificate is preferred, as well as a 3
year minimum requirement of recent teaching experience with instruction in
Middle School or High School. The ideal candidate will have a research and or
practical experience in education and have evidence of program development.

has been selected as a finalist.
This
is a nine-month position; however teaching over the summer is expected.
