Position Summary:

The Education Department at Arizona Christian University invites applications for a full time, 12 month, Department Chair position beginning Fall 2011 (or as negotiated with department) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  Rank commensurate with experience. The Education Department Chair’s primary duty is to oversee the daily operation of the department and provide leadership for program development and assessment, scheduling, budgeting, and supervision and evaluation of full-time and adjunct faculty.

 

Prerequisite Qualifications:

A.    Earned Ed.D. or Ph.D. in education preferred but ABD candidates will be considered

B.     Thorough understanding of pedagogical theory and practice including rules, regulations and laws and the ability to comply with departmental and university policies and procedures

C.     A minimum of five years of higher education teaching experience.

D.    Teaching and leadership experience in the field of public and private K-12 education

E.     Evidence of commitment to teacher education and record of active participation in professional teacher organizations

F.      Experience with various instructional delivery systems including integration of technology into coursework.

G.    Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work both independently and as part of a team

H.    Strong written and oral presentation skills

I.       Strong organizational skills

J.       Evidence of Christian commitment with interest in and ability to integrate faith and learning

K.    Potential for scholarly contribution

L.     Teacher certification

M.   Knowledge and experience in best practice relative to pedagogy

 

Duties, Tasks, Responsibilities (List as many categories as necessary):

A.    Supervision and instruction of students in classroom and/or lab settings

B.    Supervising and evaluating student teachers and interns in the field including urban and diverse

        school settings               

C.    Teaching a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester

D.    Hiring and supervision of full time and adjunct faculty

E.    Maintaining records and preparing reports to the Arizona Dept of Education, the Federal

        Government and other internal and external entities

F.     Development of written syllabi and required course materials

G.    Evaluation of subject matter taught and maintenance of student records

H.    Preparation and grading of exams

I.      Developing and enhancing knowledge and teaching skills of the respective discipline through

        attendance at conferences, seminars, and/or workshops

J.      Maintaining office hours to advise and assist students

K.     Participation in departmental and university-wide meetings and committees

L.     Participation in curriculum and program development and assessment

M.   Developing and maintaining a program of scholarly inquiry and service

N.    Other duties as assigned by the Dean

 

Working Conditions:

A.    May be required to teach and hold office hours during day, afternoon, evening, summer and winter sessions.

B.     Off-campus classes and travel may be required.

C.     Requires the ability to read, write, see, hear, and speak clearly.

D.    Requires the ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.

E.     May be required to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

 

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
