Advocacy Through Engagement: ATE's 2006 Annual Meeting
The theme of ATE's 2006 Annual Meeting, scheduled for February 18-22, 2006, at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, is Advocacy Through Engagement: The School-Community Collaborative Imperative in Educating ALL Children. This theme continues from the 2005 Summer Conference in Bismarck, North Dakota. Graduate students, P-12 educators, regional and state offices of education, staff and professional developers, community organizations, special interest groups, and educational consultants are encouraged to participate.
Proposals of the following types of sessions are encouraged:
Clinics Two-and-one-half hour clinics on Sunday, February 19, 2006, involve participants in all activities that focus on the application of models, procedures, materials, or research. Professional clinics should include interactive activities.
Thematic Sessions Fifty-minute sessions addressing the conference theme or other topics of interest to ATE members and other teacher educators are scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, February 20, 21 and 22, 2006. These sessions may include the application of research, position papers, descriptions of existing programs/practices, or needed innovations in teacher education. The following are types of thematic sessions:
Multiple Presenters/Panels These sessions are specifically designed for multiple presenter/panelists (a minumum of 4, a maximum of 6) to present current areas of research and/or classroom practice. The presenters/panelists are given 30 minutes to present followed by 15-20 minutes of discussion.
Single Paper Format Single paper presentations provide an opportunity for participants to share a synopsis of their work. The presenter is given 30 minutes to present followed by 15-20 minutes of discussion. A limited number will be accepted.
Research Reports Research papers are presented in 15-minute time segments. Papers on related topics are grouped in fifty-minute sessions on Monday and Tuesday, February 20 and 21, 2006. Each research session consists of two paper presentations with a response provided by a session chair/provider. Research should be original and not published prior to the conference.
Roundtable Format Roundtables are informal sessions during which a presenter or presenters sit at a table to discuss topics or investigate interests that may not be ready for formal presentation (e.g., works in progress).
Symposium A symposium provides an opportunity for a session organizer to submit a proposal in which multiple presenters deliver a diverse range of viewpoints on an issue of major importance or an in-depth description of a major issue or practice (2 hours). It is the session organizer's responsibility to ensure that each invited participant will register for the meeting.
Graduate Students Research Forum Graduate student papers are grouped in related areas and are presented in 10-12 minute time segments to total a 50-minute session. Chairs/advisors/ATE sponsors are encouraged to attend with their students.
Program formats that utilize multiple presenters are encouraged. Graduate students and new ATE members are encouraged to submit proposals. All presenters and session organizers are expected to register and pay the pre-registration fee by December 1, 2005, to be listed in the program. Information regarding rental of audiovisual equipment will be provided when your proposal is accepted.
