Distinguished Member Award
The Distinguished Member of the Association of Teacher Educators exemplifies the best of teacher education in this nation, which includes, outstanding contributions to the Association; outstanding contributions to teacher education; and professional, academic, and ethical standards.

Distinguished Research in Teacher Education
The Distinguished Research in Teacher Education award has been established to recognize and encourage outstanding investigations influencing teacher education and/or student learning. The Association of Teacher Educators presents this award(s) in anticipation that such recognition will stimulate research to: (1) further the development of teacher education; (2) disseminate related information nationally and internationally; and (3) expand the knowledge base relative to teacher education.

Submission requirements:
• Any person involved in research in teacher education in college or university, public or private schools, or other educational agencies may submit. Authors need not be active members of ATE. Applicant must include name, title, institution, mailing address (including summer address, if different), phone, fax, and email.
• The topic of the research paper must be related to teacher education.
• Reports of research that have been published or accepted for publication in refereed journals within the last two years are encouraged. Other research papers of comparable quality prepared within the last two years may also be submitted.
• Entries must not exceed thirty (30) double-spaced, typewritten pages. Entries should be Word documents attached to an email sent to the contact person(s).
• All entries must be postmarked no later than submission deadline.
Criteria for Selection:
Each submission is evaluated on the following criteria by a review panel representing the ATE Research Committee:
• Definition of the problem or question is stated clearly.
• Rationale for the investigation is persuasive.
• Research approach is adequate/appropriate for the problem and rationale.
• Conclusion(s) or interpretation(s) are grounded in the data.
• Contribution of the study is significant to teacher education.
Distinguished Clinician in Teacher Education
The Distinguished Clinician in Teacher Education award has been established to recognize and honor those school-based teacher educators whose work in a clinical environment helps teachers become better at what they do.

Hans Olsen Distinguished Teacher Educator
The Hans Olsen Distinguished Teacher Educator award recognizes and honors those individuals in higher education or state departments of education who have advanced the profession of teacher education. It is named after Hans Olsen, a Past President and Distinguished Member of ATE who passed away in 2010.

Submission Requirements:
• Cover page to include: nominee’s name, address and telephone number, name and address of employer, job title with description of responsibilities
• Sources of Evidence: This evidence may include but is not limited to: professional resume, letters of support from students and colleagues, course evaluations, statement reflecting applicant’s philosophy of teacher education and its relation to professional goals and accomplishments, documentation of program design/development, evidence of collaboration etc.
Criteria for Selection:
• Member of ATE for at least seven years
• Nominated by State Affiliate or institution of higher education
• Primary responsibilities are in higher education or state education department
• Functions primarily as a teacher and/or supervisor of preservice, in-service teacher, and/or graduate students; or functions as a program developer, researcher or administrator of teacher education
Distinguished Dissertation Award
The Distinguished Dissertation Award is to encourage, recognize, and promote exemplary doctoral level research that substantially contributes to the improvement of teacher education. The DDTE recipient receives a monetary award supported through a grant from the ATE Leadership Foundation for Teacher Education. Special recognition is also extended to the professor that directed the dissertation.

Deadline for Submission: June 1
Submission Requirements:
• The dissertation must be directly related to teacher education
• Authors need not be active members of ATE
• The research reported must have been completed within the past two years previous to this submission
• Entries must include name, title, institution, mailing address (including summer address if different), telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address
• Entries must include a separate letter of support from the director of the dissertation that clearly states completion of the doctoral degree prior to May 15, 2012
• A synopsis of the dissertation must be submitted electronically. The synopsis should not exceed 25 double-spaced, type written pages and must be accompanied by a one-page abstract. The author should eliminate all identifiable references to individuals and places that might bias reviewers.
Criteria for Selection:
Each dissertation synopsis will be reviewed by a panel of ATE Research Committee members using the following criteria:
• Definition of the problem or question is stated clearly.
• Rationale for the investigation is persuasive.
• Research approach is adequate/appropriate for the problem and rationale.
• Conclusion(s) or interpretation(s) are grounded in the data.
• Contribution of the study to Teacher Education.
The recipient of the ATE Distinguished Dissertation Teacher Education Award will be expected to make a presentation on the dissertation and to attend the award ceremonies at the Annual Meeting of ATE.
Kappa Delta Pi/ATE National Student Teacher/Intern of the Year
The Kappa Delta Pi/ATE National Student Teacher/Intern of the Year award recognizes a student teacher/intern who has demonstrated during his/her student teaching/intern experience an outstanding ability to:
• Plan and develop a repertoire of classroom management skills and instructional strategies that support the needs and curriculum of all students;
• Establish effective interpersonal relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff; and
• Reflect about the teaching and learning process.

Distinguished Program in Teacher Education
The Distinguished Program in Teacher Education has been established to recognize and honor outstanding teacher education programs that exemplify collaboration between local education agencies and institutions of higher education in program development and administration.

Sikula Distinguished Unit Awards
The Sikula Awards Program recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of affiliated units across the country. ATE units provide essential services and programs at the local and state levels, thereby supporting the national organization's mission and goals. The Awards Program is a vehicle for ATE to provide visibility and distinction to units that fulfill the performance criteria indicated.

C. Outstanding Unit Award
• Determined by adding up the points earned in each of the three Unit Development Award categories. The Unit with the most total points wins the plaque and check for $500.
Robert J. Stevenson Scholarship and Duaine Lang Distinguished Mentor Award
The Leadership Foundation for Teacher Education of ATE has establiedhed the Robert J. Stevenson Scholarship and Duaine Lang Distinguished Mentor Award. The Stevenson Scholarship has been established with major contribution from the Stevenson family to assist a classroom teacher working towards an advanced degree to enhance teacher leadership skills through the study of teaching. Applicants taking coursework leading to National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification are encouraged to apply, as are those engaged in the study of curriculum and instruction and/or supervision The Duaine Lang Distinguished Mentor Award honors Duaine Lang, who was instrumental in founding LFTE.
