New! College/University Teacher Education Positions Available

Dean of the School of Education
The School of Education at Sonoma State University is seeking an energetic, qualified leader to administer the academic programs of the School, as well as to foster relationships with the local community. Commitment to growth and continued educational improvement through the development of the highest quality credential and master's degree programs is expected in this visionary role.
The Dean will lead fundraising efforts and support the development and continuous improvement of partnerships with P-16 schools in the area.
The School has 20 full-time faculty and 15 full-time equivalent, part-time faculty positions, and is currently engaged in recruiting 5 additional full-time faculty members. More than 600 credential candidates and over 200 M.A. students are enrolled in School of Education programs, and a joint education doctorate (with CSU Sacramento and UC Davis) is scheduled to begin in summer 2005. The qualified candidate for Dean has an earned doctorate and an academic record to support appointment at the rank of professor in the school. Experience with accreditation processes is desirable.
About the University: Sonoma State University is located 48 miles north of San Francisco in Sonoma County, an agricultural and business community often labeled Wine Country and Telecom Valley. One of the 23 campuses of the California State University, SSU is a liberal arts and sciences institution with an enrollment of over 8,000 students and 600 full-time and part-time faculty. The university offers 44 bachelor's degrees and 13 master's degrees. The campus fosters close faculty-student interaction and currently accommodates one-third of the student population in residence.

A doctoral degree is required with a preference for the field of education. Ideally, the qualified candidate would have worked in a large, complex, multi-campus, urban academic institution, preferably within a nonprofit operating structure.

Reading/Literacy
The Department of Educational Studies at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is seeking a tenure-track assistant/associate professor (100%). Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education with an emphasis in reading or literacy and a minimum of three successful years of teaching experience in a K-12 setting. (ABD considered for a one-year academic staff position; will become tenure-track position upon notification of completion of doctoral degree by official transcript documenting doctorate degree conferred.) Responsibilities include teaching reading/literacy courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervision of students in field experiences, advising undergraduate and graduate students, engaging in relevant scholarship activities, and providing service to school districts, the university, and professional organizations. Experience with university partnerships, diverse student populations, grant seeking, and integration of technology is preferred. Salary commensurate with education and experience. Starting date August 29, 2005.

Early Childhood Position
University of Wisconsin-Parkside Teacher Education Department Assistant/Associate Early Childhood Position
The Teacher Education Department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant/Associate Professor in Early Childhood. We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates a balance of teaching and research in a department that has a special focus on preparing educators for multicultural settings. The position is available beginning Fall 2005.

Required Qualifications: The candidate must have an earned doctorate in Teacher Education or Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Early Childhood, and must have a minimum of three years PK-3 teaching experience. The primary responsibilities of the person in this position are to teach early childhood education courses, engage in scholarly activity, and provide service to the University and local schools. Additional responsibilities/expectations include providing leadership in course and program development, supervising field experiences and student teaching, advising students, teaching courses on supervision of student teachers, designing and delivering workshops for classroom teachers, and organizing curriculum materials and resources.

Desired Qualifications: Experience with the integration of multicultural, gender and class perspectives into the curriculum; Practical experience with infusion of computer-based technology and a variety of media into an integrated teacher preparation curriculum; emphasis on a holistic approach to children's learning and classroom management.

The Department of Teacher Education at Capital University, an NCATE accredited unit within the School of Education, Professional Studies, and Social Work, invites applications for two (2) nine-month tenure-track faculty positions:
* Middle Childhood Education/Social Studies
* Early Childhood-Reading/Language Arts

Qualifications include:
* Earned doctorate with emphasis in the specified area(s) of the posted position(s)
* A minimum of three years' experience teaching in preK-12 schools
* PK-12 licensure or licensure eligible
* Background in effective use of information technology
* Work in related fields such as TESOL would be valuable
* Demonstrated commitment to developmentally and culturally appropriate practice, performance-based assessment, and effective use of technology in teaching. 
* A candidate who would complete the terminal degree in 2005 may be considered.
