ATE EMERGING SCHOLARS

The Emerging Scholars program was created three years ago for the purpose of supporting the research of doctoral students and beginning professors in their first or second year faculty appointments. ATE has an Annual Meeting in February and a Summer Conference in August and the Emerging Scholars meet during these conference times. At the beginning of the Summer Conference or Annual Meeting, Scholars are invited to a reception in their honor where they will meet and collaborate with mentors and colleagues. During the Summer Conference or Annual Meeting, Scholars will present their research projects in a multiple paper format followed by comments from their mentor.

Purpose: to provide support and guidance of Emerging Scholars. Emerging Scholars are selected based on summer conference and annual meeting proposal criteria. Approximately, 20 Scholars are selected each year. Emerging Scholars are advised on how to balance the demands of teaching and research and provided editorial comments and support for journal submission of their research papers.

Requirements to become an Emerging Scholar:

  • Research must be completed prior to the submission date for proposals
  • If accepted as an Emerging Scholar, individuals must attend the Annual Meeting or Summer Conference
  • Scholars must attend the Emerging Scholars’ Reception
  • If accepted, Emerging Scholars must submit their research paper (20-30 pages) to their assigned mentor by the indicated date
  • Emerging Scholars will prepare a 15 minute formal presentation for their research to be shared at the Annual Meeting or Summer Conference
