4. Transforming Teaching and Learning:  Teacher Leadership Institute (Sat. 2/17, 1:00-4:00 p.m., $50)

Transforming schools for the 21st century and ensuring that every student, regardless of race, economic status, or other characteristic has access to great teaching and learning demands that we develop and utilize teacher leadership as never before.  This session explores the resources and strategies of the Teacher Leadership Institute (TLI) - a collaborative project of the NEA, NBPTS, and CTQ to foster teacher leadership for instruction, policy and the profession.

Following a 3-year pilot funded by The Ford Foundation and The W.H. Kellogg Foundation, TLI has undergone several data-driven improvements, and now incorporates a deeper commitment to social justice and greater use of blended learning strategies for cohorts of teacher leaders from across 10-15 states.  Join us and explore resources and strategies of the TLI that support teacher leaders who positively influence teaching and learning beyond a single classroom, help develop and implement sound education policy, skillfully lead their professional organizations, all while serving as social justice advocates.  Plan to share promising ideas with colleagues attending the session, and take away some of the tools and resources being utilized in the newly revised Institute.

Presenters: Blake West, Ed.D., Senior Policy Analyst, NEA Center for Great Public Schools - Teacher Quality, Washington, DC and Adriane Dorrington, Senior Policy Analyst, Teacher Quality, NEA Teacher Quality Development
