Association of Teacher Educators Summer Conference Washington, D.C. August 2-6, 2008
Wednesday, August 6, 2008 Columbia A & B 9:00-10:15 a.m. Critical Conversations with NCATE Leaders - Dispositions and Teacher Quality How do we educate the whole teacher to meet the needs of schools that serve our Nation’s diverse population? According to the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) standards for teacher preparation programs, teachers must be prepared to reflect a sense of fairness and equity on practices and demonstrate in their actions the belief that all children can learn. But how does one develop these professional attitudes and beliefs? How can teacher educators assess this affective quality? How do we distinguish what teacher educators can truly impact with regard to meeting professional standards related to teacher dispositions? These and other provocative questions posed by our ATE members will be the catalyst for critical conversations with NCATE leaders. Donna Gollnick, Boyce Williams, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
Special Note: Also in attendance at this session will be Arthur E. Wise, who recently retired after serving as NCATE's President for 18 years, and James G. Cibulka, recently named NCATE's President.
