Special Interest Group: Inclusive Education

Purpose

The Inclusive Education SIG of the Association of Teacher Educators is a Special Interest Group of educators supporting and learning from one another with the common goal of exploring current issues and research related to the creation of inclusive school environments that are positive and effective for all students.

Some of this SIG's activities include interactive round tables and SIG sponsored sessions at the ATE Annual Meetings.  While specific topics may change to reflect the current issues in Inclusive Education, recent topics include the preparation of educators to teach in inclusive classrooms, consultation and co-teaching between general and special educators, and Universal Design for Learning.

This SIG is comprised of a growing network of ATE members interested in preparing teachers to work in inclusive settings that provide access to general education for all students, particularly those with exceptional learning needs. We welcome new members and encourage anyone interested to participate in our sponsored sessions, interactive roundtable, and/or our annual business meeting. Please feel free to contact the chair listed above for additional information.
