Anne Gayles-Felton Endowed Scholarship

Applications Due: July 15
The Anne Richardson Gayles-Felton Endowed Scholarship was established in 2013 by Dr. Gayles-Felton, a distinguished and productive member of the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) with over 50 years of meritorious service to the Association. She has also been affiliated with the Association of Student Teaching (AST) and the Southeastern Regional Association of Teacher Educators (SRATE) and the Florida Association of Teacher Educators (FATE).

The Anne Richardson Gayles-Felton Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to a secondary education undergraduate who shows promise not only as a prospective teacher but as a future teacher educator. ATE and related foundation, the Leadership Foundation of Teacher Educators (LFTE), administers the scholarship and selects the recipient. The recipient will be announced at the ATE Annual Meeting.

Application Criteria & Process

  1. Applicants must be a Secondary Education Major enrolled in an accredited teacher education program.
    ​

  2. Applicants are nominated by an ATE member.

  3. A Grade point average of B+ or better is required.

  4. Evidence and documentation of sustained 3 years of participation in a student organization which emphasizes teaching.  (Documented evidence may include pre-college organizations such as Future Teacher, Student Education Organizations, Young Educators Society, etc.)

  5. Two letters of recommendation – one from a university professor and one from a school-based employee.  (School based employees may include teachers, principals, guidance counselors, coaches, deans, curriculum coaches, etc.). Applications are due July 15 each year.

  6. Applicants should submit a one to one-and-a-half page writing artifact in their own words.  It may be a goal statement or philosophy of education.
