National Standards for
​Teacher Educators

The Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) has long been involved in establishing national standards serving teacher educators through the development of Standards for Clinical Experience and the Teacher Educator Standards.  We invite you to download and utilize the standards documents and accompanying resources to promote high quality teacher education experiences.

ATE Standards for Clinical Experiences

​The third edition (2023) of the ATE Standards for Clinical Experiences (formerly the Standards for Field Experiences in Teacher Education) is the most comprehensive description of what clinical experiences should be to date. They are intended to challenge teacher educators and teacher preparation programs to do better than the norm—and placing more emphasis on self-reflection, coherence, diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as continuous improvement.

Teacher Educator Standards

An updated edition of the Teacher Educator Standards is coming soon!

The Teacher Educator Standards were developed by ATE to describe how teacher educators impact the preparation and development of teachers. The standards are intended to help all teacher educators and other school-based personnel impact student learning.
