Emerging Scholars

Purpose

The purpose of this program is to offer group guidance and one-on-one mentoring provided by published scholars, to foster a community of emerging scholars within ATE, and to create a collegial network of support across teacher education. The ATE Emerging Scholars Program is a prestigious, highly competitive experience that highlights the research of scholars new to academia.

Eligibility

Doctoral candidates and beginning professors in their first three years are encouraged to apply to participate in the Association of Teacher Educators’ Emerging Scholars Program held at the ATE (spring) Annual Meeting.


Proposal Submission Process

Participation and selection of Emerging Scholars follow a multi-step process.
  • The first step requires a proposal submission through the call for proposals portal following the guidelines for all proposal submissions. Note that the research must be completed prior to the submission date for proposals.
  • Upon acceptance, you will be contacted to submit a research paper. The paper must be single-authored, APA (7th ed.) compliant, double-spaced, and limited to 10 pages including references.
  • The paper must include:
    • title
    • statement of the problem
    • purpose of the study
    • theoretical framework
    • research questions
    • review of related literature
    • research methodology
    • data sources
    • data analysis methodology
    • context
    • participants
    • collected data
    • findings/results
    • discussion
    • implications
    • limitations
    • conclusions
    • references
  • Every scholar who submits a proposal will be contacted by the Program Leaders within 30 days after proposals have been received.

Emerging Scholar Expectations

  • Completed papers must be emailed to the Emerging Scholar’s mentor approximately six weeks before the spring Annual Meeting. Incomplete papers may be dropped from the Emerging Scholar Program after this due date.
  • Accepted papers will automatically be scheduled as an ATE presentation at the (spring) Annual Meeting.
  • Every accepted Emerging Scholar is expected to meet online with their mentor at least one time prior to the ATE (spring) Annual Meeting.
  • Every accepted Emerging Scholars is expected to attend a workshop held at the (spring) Annual Meeting. The workshop will focus on professional topics specific to research, writing, publishing, agenda development, and career recommendations relevant to new scholars.
